Candlelight vigil to be held Monday night
Investigators are continuing to appeal for information that will help them identify a young girl whose remains were recently discovered in the Grand River in Dunnville.
The little girl’s remains were found May 17, 2022 and a post-mortem examination was conducted two days later at the Forensic Services and Coroner’s Complex in Toronto. Additional testing is scheduled, investigators say.
Specifically, investigators want to hear from anyone who may know of a family with a little girl, between the approximate ages of 10-and-a-half months and two-and-a-half years of age, who may have left town suddenly or moved away under circumstances that could now be considered suspicious.
Anyone with information is asked to call a tip line at 1-844-677-9403. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave an anonymous online tip at www.helpsolvecrime.com.
Police continue to receive and follow up on tips from Canada and the United States, following the establishment of a designated tip line.
The Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit is investigating the death, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
Further updates will be provided when available, police say.
Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil in honor of the little girl is being held Monday night from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the parking lot beside the bridge on Dunnville Road. The vigil is also in support of the fire, police and paramedics who went through the tragedy.
