A PSN account will be required for the PC version of God of War Ragnarök. Let’s see if the reaction shown in Helldivers 2 will work in this game as well.
A PlayStation Network (PSN) account will be required to play the newly announced PC version of God of War Ragnarök. Sony announced during the State of Play presentation that the game will come to PC on September 19.
PSN Account Required for the PC Version of God of War Ragnarök
A blog post about the game stated: “PlayStation Network account required.” Additionally, the game’s Steam page also confirms this, stating, “PlayStation Network Account required, subject to PlayStation Terms of Service and User Agreement.” This requirement was also confirmed by a statement made at the beginning of the State of Play presentation: “Sony Interactive Entertainment games for PC require a PlayStation Network account.”
While this restriction generally applies to PlayStation PC ports with online multiplayer modes, God of War Ragnarök is a different case in that it is a single-player-only game. In theory, this means the game will not be available for purchase in more than 170 countries where Steam is available but PlayStation Network is not.
A similar obligation was tried to be implemented in Helldivers 2 and caused controversy. While this requirement was present when the game was first released, it was temporarily removed after early success led to technical issues. However, on May 30, Sony stated that the requirement would return and that all players must have linked their Steam and PSN accounts by June 4. This led to the game being delisted in 177 countries because PlayStation Network was not available in those countries.
