PSG won the Coupe de France against OL this Saturday, May 25. At the end of a controlled match, during which Les Gones tried in vain to rebel, Paris won its fifteenth title in the competition for the last appearance of Kylian Mbappé in the colors of the capital.

In the stands, between OL and PSG supporters, there was a match. They even went so far as to offer a sad scene of violence on the asphalt of the A1 motorway before the match. But on the pitch of the Pierre Mauroy stadium, between Paris and Lyon, there was no match. In any case not until the hour mark, which allowed the capital club to win the fifteenth Coupe de France in its history against an impotent OL, without solution, and yet in top form after a great end to the season which assured him a place in the Europa League.

The question of this meeting lay partly in the motivation that the Parisians were going to show to win their second trophy of the season, after the French Championship. A reward which seemed meager after the surprise elimination from the Champions League by Dortmund. And yet, Luis Enrique’s men put unbearable pressure on Lyon’s shoulders from the kick-off. After five minutes of play, four big Parisian chances had already been counted and the Lyonnais could thank the gloves of Lucas Perri for having maintained the suspense of the match on strikes from Bradley Barcola and Warren Zaire-Emery.
As good as he was on this big night, OL’s Brazilian goalkeeper was unable to work a miracle when Ousmane Dembélé was found strangely alone at the far post. “Dembouz” only had to push the ball into the goal from the front to open the scoring (23rd). Ten minutes later, Fabian Ruiz doubled the lead in two stages, at the far post, thanks to a good delivery from Dembélé, him again.
No big finale for Mbappé
Like its season, or even several of its last matches, OL tried to turn everything around in the second half of the match. Jake O’Brien created the spark thanks to a powerful header, which landed in Gianluigi Donnarumma’s top corner after a corner (55th). A scenario which almost happened again later in the second act, but this time the Italian goalkeeper deployed his long frame to make a high-class parade.
Pierre Sage’s men tried to wrap up the match and actually created a few situations. But they also suffered on the counterattack and from Parisian technical superiority. Which, moreover, was not the fault of Kylian Mbappé for his very last appearance in the colors of PSG, once again transparent. Finally, the Lyonnais were deprived of the ball and hope at the end of the match.

The Parisians therefore return to the capital with a fifteenth Coupe de France in their suitcases. And Mbappé a fifteenth title in his Parisian career. The captain of the Blues showed his joy at the final whistle, like most of his teammates. But as beautiful and tasty as this trophy is, it will not give any additional patina to his years in France. It will at least have made it possible to shift PSG’s season into something very acceptable rather than disappointing.
