Real Madrid rose from the brink and knocked out the PSG sequel in the Champions League with Karim Benzema’s hat trick.
The quarter-finals of the Football Champions League on Wednesday between Real Madrid and PSG became one of the all-time classics. PSG lost their two-goal run in the second period. The Frenchman once again became the hero of the Madriders with his hat trick Karim Benzema.
Before the match, there was no doubt who was the most watched player of the night ahead. PSG: n Kylian Mbappe The derby had been the talk of Santiago Bernabeun all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium.
The reason for the warmer reception was clear. Mbappen is expected to sooner or later become Real Madrid’s new superstar.
It was Mbappe who had settled the first half of the quarterfinals for PSG with a great extra time goal. At home, Real Madrid did not cancel like the Paris game but dared to squeeze from a high start.
The name of the first scorer of the match hardly surprised anyone. Mbappe had a good try after 28 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. Risen back to the opening lineup Neymar released a pass from the left 38 minutes into the match, and Mbappen took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net.
Mbappe showed his skill again in the second period and put the ball to the goal, but had managed to get away again.
A few minutes later, the script changed. PSG goalkeeper, European champion Gianluigi Donnarumma slowed fatally with the ball. Vinicius Junior found Karim Benzeman in front of the goal and Real was suddenly a goal away from extra time. Benzema were close to putting the second goal away.
From Donnarumma’s mistake, a series of events began that will look for peers even in the history of the Champions League known for its dramatic moments. Benzema hit again – and then immediately followed again almost directly immediately after PSG’s kick-off.
After 76 minutes in the game clock, a Croatian savvy Luka Modric found in a small space behind the line a Benzeman who had made the move and finished for sure. In the next attack, Benzema hit the tip of the shoe for the third time. Real Madrid had risen from the brink in less than 20 minutes.
PSG didn’t cause just any tightness in the last quarter. Failed to kick in the opening section Lionel Messi was given a chance to change things around. Real Madrid won the match 3-1 and went on to score 3-2 together.
In his last goal, Benzema rose 309 to hit the legendary Alfredo Di Stefanon Real Madrid’s third best goal scorer of all time in club history. The above are no more Raul Gonzalez and Cristiano Ronaldo.
For PSG, the match became another sore figure in the Champions League loss column. In recent years, Barcelona, Manchester United and now Real Madrid have in turn memorized PSG.
In the second match of the evening, Manchester City and Sporting played a goal-free draw. City advanced with 5-0 goals. City’s 36-year-old goalkeeper Scott Carson entered the field in the second period and played the second Champions League match of his career. It had been 17 years since the previous one.
