PS5 and PS5 Pro look very similar at first glance, because Sony has hardly changed the design at all. But what are the similarities and, above all, the differences between PS5 and PS5 Pro? MeinMMO presents you with all the details and explains what you should pay attention to.
PS5 vs PS5 Pro: The similarities in detail
Software: Both consoles use the same user interface (UI). It’s just improved hardware, not a completely new generation of consoles. If you’re used to the PS5’s software, you don’t have to get used to it.
Design and size: According to the PlayStation Blog, the console will have the same dimensions as the original PS5. The design of the PS5 will remain the same, but with a few black adjustments on the sides.
Interchangeable side plates: Both the PS5 and PS5 Pro offer interchangeable side panels so you can customize the look of your PS5. It is not yet known whether the PS5 cover panels will also fit the PS5 Pro.
Controllers: The PS5 Pro also uses the official DualSense controller. The DualSense Edge is also supported. Sony has not introduced a completely new controller with new functions for the PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro comes with a DualSense controller.
Optional drive: Sony introduced an optional drive with the Slim version. The Digital Edition can be retrofitted with a drive. The PS5 Pro uses the same principle: The Pro model is delivered without a drive, but you can retrofit one.
PS Plus: You have to subscribe to PS Plus for multiplayer on both the PS5 and the Pro model. If you already have a PS Plus subscription, everything stays the same. You can simply continue to use your subscription on the PS5 Pro.
VRR: VRR stands for “Variable Refresh Rate” and is designed to ensure a more stable image by optimizing the frame rate. You can already use the feature on the PS5, and it will also be available on the PS5 Pro.

Perfomance: According to official information, Sony has significantly increased the performance of the PS5 Pro compared to the standard model. The following is known so far:
PS5 Pro GameBoost: According to Sony, this feature is designed to stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games.
Price: For many, the biggest difference is the price difference: The PS5 Slim cost 549 euros at release, while Sony charged 449.99 euros for the Digital Edition. Sony recently adjusted the price of the PS5.
The PS5 Pro costs 799.99 euros without a drive at release. Compared to the digital edition of the PS5 Slim, that’s 350 euros more. You can buy a drive for 119.99 euros.
Larger memory:
Wi-Fi 7: The normal PS5 still supports Wifi 6, the new PS5 Pro is supposed to support the new standard Wifi 7. To put it simply: Wifi 7 is much more stable than Wifi 6 and supports much higher transfer rates. While Wifi 6 offers a maximum data rate of 9.6 Gbps, Wifi 7 already offers 46 Gbps. There are also a number of other improvements.
There is one disadvantage: If you want to use Wifi 7, your router must also support the standard.
