PS5 Pro cheap in the New Year’s offer at MediaMarkt and Saturn

Since its market launch in November last year, the PS5 Pro has barely been priced below the recommended price, but MediaMarkt and Saturn are now taking action against it.

At the beginning of November 2024, the PS5 Pro was launched for 799.99 euros as a recommended retail price (RRP) and since then it has rarely been significantly cheaper anywhere. At MediaMarkt and at Saturn but they currently exist with an 11 percent discount and therefore almost 100 euros cheaper.

According to comparison sites, you can currently get the cheapest price for the console here and the offer is valid until January 6th. The discount is displayed respectively the final price in the shop in the shopping cart.

As a mid-generation update, Sony’s latest console promises a number of innovations, most notably more computing power for better graphics and performancemore storage space ex works and software improvements.

Because the disc drive is only available separately, there is also a disadvantage if you want to continue using your existing PS5 data carriers without detours instead of relying entirely on downloads.

The colleagues at GameStar took a closer look at the new Sony console when it was released and tester Jan Stahnke describes it as the best console he’s ever used – just ahead of the normal PS5 in second place.

The improvements should therefore be “clearly noticeable in almost every game”, but “never revolutionary”. Highlighted are increased frame times and better ray tracing performance, which are referred to as “eye candy” and very beneficial to the fun of the game meant to be.

One of the console’s big pro points is the new upscaling process PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is similar to AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), but is said to be better. The biggest disadvantage is the relatively high price.

According to the test, the PS5 Pro is primarily recommended for everyone who either doesn’t have a PS5 at home yet or is dissatisfied with the frame rates and resolutions of the previous PS5 or who gets enhanced versions for their favorite games. Others could also stick with the PS5.

In the end it comes down to how much a few more details or 60 FPS in a previous 30 FPS game is worth to you. If that sounds like a fair deal to you, then go for it.
