(Telestock) – Prysmiana company listed on Euronext Milan and active in the sector of cable systems for energy and telecommunications, has received a Letter of Award for a power transmission project that will connect theIsland of Mallorca with the Spanish mainland. The value of the project will exceed 0.5 billion euros.

Prysmian and Red Eléctrica, the transmission network operator of the Spanish electricity system, will conduct the negotiations of the exclusive contract, with the signature expected by the end of 2024.

Prysmian will be responsible for the design, installation, testing and commissioning of two single core HVDC cables (High Voltage Direct Current) of 250 kV MI, as well as a fiber optic cable for telecommunications and monitoring, which will connect the island of Mallorca with the Spanish mainland electricity grid, covering both the submarine and terrestrial sections.

“Prysmian has strengthened its leading role in the development of interconnections with the second project in the Balearic Peninsula, as we continue to build increasingly efficient and sustainable power transmission networks in the Mediterranean area,” commented Hakan Ozmen, EVP Transmission at Prysmian – We will implement this project using the same consolidated MI cable technology that was previously implemented in the installation of the Peninsula – Baleares 1 project. The Letter of award also reflects the long-standing relationship with Red Eléctrica, as Prysmian has already been awarded several interconnection projects in recent years such as Ibiza-Formentera, Lanzarote-Fuerteventura, Tenerife – La Gomera and Ceuta-Peninsula”.
