(Finance) – Prysmian he signed a Framework Agreement with Réseau de Transport d’Electrité (RTE), the French transmission network operator, for the design, supply, installation and testing (EPCI, engineering, procurement, construction, installation) of connections in cable submarine. These links will connect two offshore wind farms, specifically the Fos Project and the Narbonnaise Project, to the French electricity transmission grid, covering both the subsea and onshore parts (including landfall works).
THE projects are subject to a call off by RTE and the finalization of the terms of the related EPCI contracts which is expected to take place in the period 2026-2027. Delivery and commissioning are scheduled for 2031-2032. These two EPCI contracts have a total potential value of approximately 700 million euros.
Every single project provides three export HVAC cables (High Voltage Alternating Current) 225 kV three-pole with XLPE insulation and synthetic armour. The approximately 400 km of terrestrial cables will be produced in Gron, France, while the approximately 240 km of submarine cables will be manufactured in Prysmian’s center of excellence in Arco Felice, Italy, and in Pikkala, Finland, for a total of approximately 640 km of cables (terrestrial and submarine). The installation operations involve the use of one of Prysmian’s cutting-edge cable-laying vessels.
The Fos project will develop on the coast of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and will require approx 300 km of cables (land and submarine), while the Project Narbonnaiselocated on the coast of Occitania, will take approx 340 km of cables (land and subsea), individually providing a potential capacity of 750 MW.
These projects have a value strategicas they are part of RTE’s long-term plan to develop the national electricity grid in order to accommodate new “lowcarbon” plants (both generation and consumption). Prysmian is already a leader in supplying and laying cables for 200 kV submarine connections in Europe and can count on a solid relationship with RTE based on previously awarded projects, such as the France-Spain (Biscay Bay), France-UK (IFA2) interconnections and Italy-France (Piedmont-Savoy).
As a testament to Prysmian’s leadership in the offshore wind sector in France, the company has built several wind farms such as Fécamp, Calvados and Saint Nazaire, and Noirmoutier (not yet completed).
