Provincial mask mandate ends but face covering still required in

The provincial government ended its mask mandate in many settings on Monday, but it would be wise to keep a face covering within reach if you plan to go to some Municipality of Chatham-Kent facilities.

Visitors to municipal service centers for counter service, including Service Ontario, are no longer required to wear masks.

However, masks are still required to be worn by anyone visiting Chatham-Kent Public Health services, according to provincial regulation, stated a media release from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Provincial regulation also requires masks still be worn at long-term care homes, including the municipally-operated Riverview Gardens, added the release. The same applies to public transit passengers while onboard transit vehicles.

Although masks are not required in many places, use of masks are “strongly encouraged” for people visiting Chatham-Kent Public Library facilities, including when attending library programs.

Masks will be available for library patrons who request them.

Visitors to municipal pools are not required to wear masks and will only be required to “passively screen” upon entrance to the pools.

“Staff will continue to wear masks and follow all COVID-19 precautions per our corporate policy,” said the municipality.

Staff will also continue to wear masks when working at arenas and halls, but the public can choose whether or not they want to wear a mask, the municipality said.

Masks are also not required when attending cultural venues, but there will be signage encouraging patrons to wear a mask if they wish to do so.

“There may be a limited number of masks available for patrons, but those who wish to wear a mask are encouraged to bring their own.”

Anyone with questions concerning masking and the use of municipal facilities is urged to call 3-1-1.
