In February 2022, the Baarn municipal council gave the green light for the plans of the MeyerBergman Heritage Group. The Quote500 couple Ton and Maya Meijer bought the former royal palace in 2017 to transform it into a location where Dutch entrepreneurs can present themselves.
The couple also wants to build apartment complexes in the northern tip of the estate. There is now a military police barracks there. Trees must be cut down in the Borrebos for housing construction.
Opponents of the plans anticipate nuisance to the surrounding area, including noise, traffic and damage to vulnerable nature. Nature organizations, local residents and other private individuals therefore submitted a total of eleven objections against the amended zoning plan of the municipality of Baarn.
