Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, and Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton, jointly announced Thursday the funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s community building fund will be used to tackle projects that include a new sports facility at Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, southwest of London, and repairs to an arena roof in Strathroy-Caradoc.

“Sports are not just for the pursuit of individual and team accomplishments. They bring people and communities together in competition and celebration,” McNaughton, Ontario’s Labor minister, said in a statement.

“That is why our government continues to ensure the organizations and facilities that make Southwestern Ontario so special have the support they need to serve our families.”

The money will also be used for accessible bleachers at the Dawn-Euphemia sports facility and boardwalks for the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.

Thursday’s announcement is part of the province’s $400-million investment to support tourism, culture, sport and recreation projects over the next three years.
