In the Place de la Republique in Paris, thousands of people, some of them with lit flares, can be seen gathered. According to The Guardian barricades have also been set on fire.
The demonstrators must be NFP supporters, writes BBCand Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the far-left alliance NFP, spoke at the venue during the evening.
