A memorial service is planned for Wednesday in honor of Mahsa Amini, who died on September 16 after being detained by Iran’s moral police.

The death was the start of widespread protests in the country where at least 141 people are said to have been killed, according to the human rights organization IHR.

Amini’s family is under house arrest on Wednesday as several memorial ceremonies are planned. This is what Mahsa Amini’s cousin tells TV4 Nyhetern’s Middle East correspondent Therese Christiansson. The Iranian security police reportedly warned the family against attending, citing security concerns.

“Constantly afraid of being killed”

Iranian city media have shown Mahsa Amini’s cousin’s face in the media and singled him out as one of those behind the violent protests, says Therese Christiansson.

– It is very dangerous for him wherever he is in the world and he says that he is constantly afraid of being killed.
