It is still unclear what caused the stomach symptoms that a family in Söderhamn suffered from and which led to the death of a child. But the prosecutor rules out food poisoning.

Neither the autopsy of the child nor the taking of samples has been able to give “any clear explanation” about the cause, the Prosecutor’s Office writes in a press release. Medical expertise works with the matter “on a broad front”.

“What can be said is that it is not food poisoning that is behind the incident. Otherwise, medical expertise cannot yet provide an explanation for the death and the course of the illness,” says prosecutor and preliminary investigation leader Christer Sammens.

No one is currently suspected of a crime.

It was last Sunday that a family of four, two adults and two children from Söderhamn, sought treatment at the hospital in Hudiksvall for serious stomach symptoms.

The mother and a child are still being treated with serious symptoms. The father of the family has been able to leave the hospital.

On Tuesday, the family’s apartment was examined by the police’s bomb technicians, who are also tasked with working with chemical and biological substances.
