According to Yonhap, the South Korean military made a statement regarding the garbage balloons sent by North Korea yesterday and the “garbage balloon tension” between the two countries.
The statement noted that “propaganda broadcasts” were made to the North Korean side from Thursday evening until this morning through loudspeakers placed in areas close to the border where the garbage balloons were sent yesterday.
The statement also said that if North Korea continues its actions, the military will continue to respond appropriately.
“GARBAGE BUBBLE” TENSION
North Korean defectors and activists in South Korea have sent large balloons filled with propaganda leaflets critical of Pyongyang to the North.
In response, North Korea sent more than 2,000 garbage-carrying balloons to South Korea since the end of May.
Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, criticized South Korea for its “dirty game”, accusing it of sending “leaflets criticizing the Pyongyang government” north of the border.
Kim, who criticized South Korea for sending “anti-Pyongyang manifestos” north of the border, said, “South Korea must be prepared to pay a huge price for its dirty games.” (AA)
