Promoted Como recruited Cesc Fabregas as their head coach

Como finished second in Serie B last season and secured direct promotion to the Italian top flight.

Como, which sensationally moved up to the Italian football series Serie A at the end of last season, has hired a former football star as its head coach Cesc Fabregas, the club says on its website. The new contract is for four years.

Fabregas was the club’s assistant coach last season. He also served as interim head coach for a month. Fabregas could not take the permanent head coaching job last season, as he did not yet have the coaching permits required by UEFA.

– I am very happy to start this season as head coach and I thank the ownership group for their trust in me. We share the goals of the group and I believe that this is just the beginning of what this club can get to, Fabregas said recently.

The Spanish talent’s playing career was long and successful. His brightest achievement is the World Cup with Spain in 2010.

Como finished second in Serie B last season and secured direct promotion to the Italian top flight. The club’s history is quite colorful. It was relegated from Serie A in 2003. The club went bankrupt in 2016, but due to perseverance and new ownership arrangements, it has gotten back on its feet.

Como’s journey in the Italian premier league starts on August 19, when the rising team travels to the big club Juventus as a guest.
