In Helldivers 2, the brave fighters of Over-Earth are still entitled to a cape. The developers have now spoken out and said that it is ready, but that they will still wait and see.
What kind of cloak is that? At the beginning of May, an update shook the Helldivers 2 community. Sony, the publisher of Helldivers 2, wanted to force all players to create a PSN account and link their existing account to it.
While this situation was already causing some annoyance, one fact was the last straw. Helldivers 2 was sold in countries where the Playstation Network did not offer a service, so these countries could not create an account and would have been excluded with the change.
How did the community react? The Helldivers 2 community protested loudly on the Internet and by review bombing on Steam. The game lost its good rating on Steam within days and even the community manager asked for the game to be rated badly and lost his job as a result.
In the end, Sony backed down and gave in to the players’ wishes. The fans’ protest was also creative, with one fan creating a cape from the pattern of the Steam reviews, which also caught the attention of the developers (via X.com).
As compensation, the players were actually supposed to receive this protest cape, but it has been quiet for a while. Now, however, the developers have spoken out.
With the new Warbond “Viper Commandos” we head into the jungle.
The cape is finished, but it is not coming yet
What about the cape? The developer and former CEO of Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, was asked about the cape by a user on X.com. He wanted to know what was going on with the cape and whether it would be coming soon, as no one had heard anything for a long time.
Pilestedt responded on X.com: “That’s true. We have it ready, but we want to find the right time to release it.”
This answer also triggered reactions from the community.
How did the community react? Some voices from the Helldivers 2 community have spoken out under the developer’s response. @BradleyDorector writes on X.com: “It would be a good move to release it at the same time as the game is relaunched in the other regions […]“ and alludes to the fact that Helldivers 2 is still not available for purchase in many regions where it was previously possible.
@Sniperson2002 is excited about X.com: “I will never take the cape off once it’s released. X.com plans to make the cape unlockable as a “challenge reward.”
When and how the cape will be unlocked is still unknown. Nevertheless, most people are just looking forward to it when the time comes. The Helldivers players and the developers have done another good deed together: the developers of Helldivers 2 are committed to saving children because you did the same thing in the game.
