PROF. DR. WHO IS ENDER DULUNDU?
prof. Dr. Ender Dulundu is frequently on the agenda with his expertise in general surgery and the treatment he applies for liver disorders. Emir Eymen Yıldırım, who was diagnosed with liver cancer when he was only 1.5 years old, was expected to get rid of his tumor with surgery after long chemotherapy sessions. However, it was said that the 12-centimeter tumor, which was thought to have formed in the mother’s womb, could not be operated and had to be transplanted urgently. Doctors spoke to Father Kadir Yıldırım as “He can live for a maximum of 1 month if he doesn’t get a transplant”. Few places were available to perform a Liver transplant for such a small patient.
Later, the family, general surgeon Prof. Dr. Ender trusted Dulundu and delivered his children. After successful surgery, Küçük Eymen is now 5 years old and clings to life with the liver he received from his father. Küçük Eymen met with his doctor at the Organ Donation Week held at Istanbul Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty and went on stage, took the microphone and thanked his doctor.
Dulundu stated that liver tumors called hepatoblastoma can be seen at a rate of 2 in 1 million in adults, but more common in the first 3 years of age in children. prof. Dr. Ender Dulundu stated that there is no obvious cause of liver tumors in childhood and explained: “It is one of the most common masses in childhood. It is slightly more common in babies born prematurely and with low birth weight. One of the most effective treatment methods for the tumor in Emir Eymen was liver transplantation. After discussion with the council, we decided on a liver transplant. We waited for a period of time for a liver transplant to come from a cadaver, but the tumor had the potential to progress and we had to take a liver from his father without waiting too long. His father gave some of his liver to his son. We performed the surgery and discharged him.”
ATTENDED THE CONGRESS ORGANIZED IN KOREA
prof. Dr. Ender Dulundu recently attended the ISLS2021 4th International Advanced Liver & Pancreas Surgery congress held in Korea, which has a high scientific level, attended by internationally important speakers, online. Special topics in living donor liver transplantation were discussed.
‘PROCESSES LIKE MANICURE-PEDICURE, TATTOO, PIERCING CAN CAUSE HEPATITIS’
prof. Dr. In an interview, Ender Dulundu stated that there is no problem in organ donation as an organization, but that more work needs to be done by underlining the important points in terms of raising public awareness.
Dulundu, in response to the question of the status of voluntary organ donation in Turkey, said that only seven people out of one million made this decision. Processes made with common use materials such as manicure-pedicure, tattoo and piercing cause the transmission of hepatitis diseases, while triggering the formation of serious damage such as fibrosis and cirrhosis in the liver.
Dulundu made the following comments about the current state of organ transplantation in our country:
“I can easily say that we have enough staff in terms of organ transplantation. Very good operations can be performed, we do not have a shortage of surgical, health personnel and equipment to do this. As of today, we are in the top three places in terms of transplantation from living to living creature in the global framework. Today In health tourism, organ transplants come first. Our patients also come from abroad, including organ transplants here. Therefore, I can say that we are in a pretty good place in this sense.”
