There is an increase in coronavirus cases in Turkey. Regarding the coronavirus cases in Turkey, which has increased above the world average, Trabzon Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) Head of Medical Microbiology Department Prof. Dr. Faruk Aydın stated that we are facing a severe wave. In the continuation of his explanation, Prof. Dr. Intellectual “We have now passed 6 months in vaccines and there is a serious decrease in the protection of the vaccine. Therefore, it is a scientific necessity that primarily vulnerable groups and people over 65 years of age should be vaccinated and survive this wave.” said.
“A VARIANT THAT CAN ESCAPE VACCINE”
KTU Head of Medical Microbiology Department Prof. Dr. Faruk Aydın said that the number of cases increased with the summer months and that it came in a severe wave. Stating that the Kovid-19 variant, which is common in Turkey and the world, is easily transmitted, Prof. Dr. Aydın said, “People who have passed the vaccination period and whose immunity has decreased may be vulnerable to the Kovid-19 variant and new sub-variants. Different sub-variants of the Omicron variant such as B1 and B2 began to form. Now there are B4 and B5 variants all over the world and it is easily transmitted. Omicron is very contagious. “Although it does not cause a noisy disease, it is a variant that can escape from the vaccine. The effect of vaccines is an opportunity to get rid of the vaccine, especially in people with a long vaccine period,” he said.
“WE ARE FACING A STRONG WAVE”
Stating that previously administered vaccines in Turkey can be re-administered to protect against Omicron and its common sub-variants, Prof. Dr. Aydin said:
“We have now passed 6 months in vaccines and there is a serious decrease in the protection of the vaccine. For this reason, it is a scientific necessity for vulnerable groups and people over the age of 65 to be vaccinated and to survive this wave. We are facing a violent wave and we cannot get through this wave any other way. We said once that we cannot be protected for life with the vaccine. Vaccine immunity can protect us for a certain period of time. As a country, we have exceeded this period. Since we have overcome it, vaccination programs should be put on the agenda, especially starting from risky groups. We have to use the mask as well as the vaccine. The variant in which the existing vaccines were created has changed. Due to the variant change, the protection of the vaccine has already decreased somewhat. Since the immune system formed is not permanent for life, the immune system also decreased. We cannot say that the body has completely forgotten about it. Although the body recognizes it, it cannot provide sufficient protection. It would not be the right approach to expect hope from the vaccines made in the past.”
