A prisoner at Salberga prison in Sala municipality was denied care and later died as a result of pneumonia, reports P4 Västmanland.
The man had complained several times of pain in his lungs, as well as chills and sweating. However, the prison staff judged that the man was not ill enough for medical staff to be called.
It is unclear whether his state of health would have improved even if he had received medical care, as he likely suffered from an “unusual course of illness”, according to the investigation by the Department of Correctional Services.
