Seven Hong Kong residents arrested while trying to escape to Taiwan in a high-speed boat have been sentenced to up to ten months in prison, local media reports.
They were part of the group of twelve people who were nicknamed “The Hong Kong 12” in local media.
The group was arrested by the Chinese Coast Guard in August 2020 after traveling in a boat on its way to nearby Taiwan. China pointed out the passengers in the boat as people with connections to the extensive democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong 2019.
Earlier this week, two more activists in Hong Kong were sentenced to prison.
