Province of Utrecht – The waiting time for a social rental home in Utrecht is on average eleven years. But not only in the city do people wait a long time for a home, in Bunschoten and Rhenen, home seekers also wait more than six years for a place. Municipalities have created priority arrangements to ensure that the people who need a place the most are first in line. But professor Peter Boelhouwer wonders whether the regulations are overshooting their mark. “If you don’t belong to a special group, you actually no longer have a chance on the housing market,” he says.
