At home, the everyday grinds on. Chris O’Neill has started his own company with offices in Östermalm, and Princess Madeleine is busy with her commitments to the Childhood Foundation. In addition, she was thrown straight into the seriousness when she was acting as a substitute for father the king.

Princess Madeleine’s Halloween pictures

With the family’s close ties to the United States, it’s no wonder that they really manage their American heritage. Chris O’Neill was born in London, but has lived in the USA most of his life, and Princess Leonore was born in New York. Princess Adrienne and Prince Nicolas are also American citizens. So of course the family is careful to celebrate traditions like Halloween. In recent years, Princess Madeleine has offered her followers pictures showing what they chose to dress up as, and at the same time wished the Swedish people a nice Halloween.

In 2023, Madeleine and Chris were dressed as the characters from the TV series Yellowstone, while the children were everything from princesses to cute ghosts, and the year before that, Princess Madeleine and Chris were hippies and the children wore slightly more traditional Halloween costumes.

In 2021, Chris had a curly wig and sequined shirt, while Madde was more neutral. The year before that, Madeleine was catwoman, and in 2018 – when they started their tradition with the annual Halloween photos – Madeleine was face painted as a cat, and Prince Nicolas was batman.

Common to all pictures that Princess Madeleine previously posted on Instagram during Halloween times is that both she and Chris were in the pictures, and if Chris was not there, Princess Madeleine has always been in the picture together with all three children .

But when Madeleine offered her followers a Halloween picture on Thursday, it completely broke with family tradition. Instead of the whole family being in the picture, it was actually just Princess Leonore and Princess Adrienne who appeared in the eerie Halloween photo, which appears to have been taken in the woods.

Neither Madeleine, Chris O’Neill nor Prince Nicolas are in the picture as they always are.

“It’s a spooky Halloween this year!”, Madeleine wrote to the picture.

The picture has provoked strong reactions from followers, who are extremely impressed by the princesses’ cool outfits.

Happy Halloween we say too!
