Prince Harry’s the memoir Spare has sold around 1.4 million copies in the UK, USA and Canada during the first day. The book’s publisher, Penguin Random House, said on Thursday that it is a new record.
The previous record belonged to a former US president For Barack Obama. His book A Promised Land sold 887,000 copies in the US in its first day.
The first edition of the French version of Varamies was 210,000 copies, but the second edition of 130,000 copies has already been taken, said Fayard, the French publisher of the work.
The Fayard publishing house has not announced the first day’s sales figures.
Also in Germany, additional editions of the sensational biography have been taken the week of its publication.
Harry and Meghan’s popularity in base readings
At the same time that sales of memoirs are at their peak, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle’s popularity in Britain has sunk to rock bottom. According to the YouGov poll published by The Times magazine, only 24 percent of Britons had a positive image of the couple.
Among the over 65s, Harry and Meghan were even more unpopular than the prince tarnished by sexual crime allegations Andrew.
The royals in public for the first time since the publication of the book
The British Court of Justice has not commented on the book. Prince Harry’s older brother, the Prince of Wales William and Princess Catherine visited a hospital in Liverpool during the day, but they brushed aside reporters’ questions on the subject.
In his biography, Harry talks about his quarrel with his brother, the dull attitude of other royals towards Meghan and the everyday life of the court.
