Former national security adviser Henrik Landerholm resigned this year after making several mistakes that could harm Sweden’s security.

Today he is charged with carelessness with secret task.

Here are five points about the Landerholm heritage.

1. Protected

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s (M) former security adviser Henrik Landerholm is being prosecuted today on March 11 for negligence with a secret task. This is after he left confidential documents in an unlocked security cabinet in a courtyard in 2023. The four documents contained details that could harm Sweden’s security.

2. Several security incidents

In addition to the documents that were forgotten at the courtyard, Henrik Landerholm has caused several similar incidents, revealed DN. At the end of 2022, he forgot his mobile phone at Hungary’s embassy after being at dinner there. He got the cellphone back the following day.

In early 2023 he participated in Ekot’s Saturday interview. There he forgot a black notebook that contained sensitive information. The book was not collected by any employee at the Government Offices, but was sent by taxi.

Landerholm has confirmed both incidents.

3. Departed after reduced trust

Confidence in the security adviser fell as the incidents were revealed. The opposition attracted great criticism and several parties wanted him to resign.

On January 27, 2025, a few days after the preliminary investigation against him, he left his position.

“Leaving the most important and demanding assignment of my life in the overall most difficult situation for Europe’s and Sweden’s security is of course a great sadness,” Landerholm wrote at X.

4. SÄPO involved

After Landerholm was suspected of crime it came through DN To know that the security police were involved in the case. They would interrogate him and investigate the incident about the forgotten documents in the courtyard.

5. Childhood friend with Kristersson

Henrik Landerholm was appointed becoming a national security adviser by Ulf Kristersson, without the service being announced. Previously, Landerholm was Director General of the Psychological Defense Agency. The reason he was appointed in this way meant the government was an urgent need.

Kristersson and Landerholm are childhood friends and have studied at the same schools. The employment of Landerholm led to allegations of friendship corruption.
