Prime Minister Garibashvili resigned again in Georgia

Addressing the nation on live broadcast, Garibashvili reminded that he took office as prime minister for the second time about 3 years ago and stated that they carried out effective work during this period.

INTRA-PARTY ROTATION

Stating that the ruling party “Georgian Dream” and the government respect democratic principles, therefore there is internal rotation in the party, Garibashvili emphasized that new opportunities should be given to other people by resigning.

Pointing out that he served as prime minister for a total of 5 years in two separate periods, Garibashvili said, “I served our country in good faith. I defended the interests of our country and our people without compromise. I am proud of the results we achieved together with the team during this period.” said.

Garibashvili stated that he was offered the post of chairman from the political council of the Georgian Dream Party and announced that this issue would be discussed at the party congress to be held on February 1.

Reminding that parliamentary elections will be held in the country in autumn this year, Garibashvili emphasized that the party should prepare for these elections.

NOT HIS FIRST RESIGNATION

Garibashvili, who previously served as prime minister in 2013, resigned from his post on December 23, 2015.

In his speech in 2015, Garibashvili said, “Duties are temporary. The only things that are eternal are the homeland and God.” Using his statement, he noted that he came to office at the appropriate time and left it.

Irakli Garibashvili became prime minister again on February 22, 2021, after the resignation of then Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

Garibashvili also served as minister of interior and defense in various periods after the general elections held in Georgia in 2012.

In the Georgian press, the new prime minister candidate is 45-year-old Member of Parliament Prof. Dr. It is claimed that it will be Irakli Kobakhidze.

Kobakhidze, Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, served as the speaker of the Georgian Parliament in the 2016-2019 period.

According to the Georgian Constitution, the ruling party must submit a new prime minister candidate to the President within 1 week.
