Police in the Southwestern Ontario town of Aylmer say Pride flags have been stolen from the same home five times since mid-August. The symbol of LGBTQ inclusion was most recently stolen from the home on Beech Street at about 11:50 pm on Oct. 28, police say.

Video footage shows two men were involved: One is seen with a flashlight at the end of the driveway and another is seen approaching the flags, tearing them down and running west on Elm Street, police said. Officers were called immediately, police say, but failed to find the suspects.

This was the fifth time the Pride flag was stolen from the home since Aug. 16. There has been a series of similar incidents at other homes in the Elgin County town in recent months.

A Wallaceburg resident is charged with first-degree murder after officers found a man dead early Saturday, Chatham-Kent police say.

Officers responding to a medical emergency found a Wallaceburg man, 64, with an “apparent injury” in an Elgin Street home in Wallaceburg, about 26 kilometers northwest of Chatham, at 1:44 am, police said Monday.

A death investigation began Sunday and a suspect was arrested, police said. Police have not identified the accused or the victim. “Police can confirm this is an isolated incident, the victim and accused are known to one another and at no time was there a concern for public safety,” police said in a statement.

Some neighbors were more surprised than alarmed that a homicide had occurred near their homes. “It’s really out of the ordinary,” said one person, who did not want their name used. “I believe it’s an isolated incident.”
