The world stars chasing youthful glow • The expert: “Would prefer other methods”
Hollywood stars like Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian swear by the latest trend – injecting salmon sperm into their faces in search of a youthful glow.
– Personally, I would prefer one of the other more scientifically proven methods, says skin therapist Doha Albildawi.
Jennifer Aniston, known for her fresh look, says she is ready to try “almost anything” to keep it. In an interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” she confirmed that she tried a facial treatment with salmon sperm, or milk as it’s actually called, injected into the skin. The method is carried out with so-called microneedling, which pushes the substances from the salmon sperm into the face.
– Everything is about research and everything is about actually stimulating the collagen. Because the older we get, the less collagen we get in our skin, says skin therapist Doha Albildawi.
The celebrities’ unusual skin care methods
Aniston is far from alone in trying unusual skin treatments. Hollywood has seen a growing trend of strange beauty regimens, where celebrities go to extremes to try to stop aging. Kim Kardashian has also tried the salmon sperm treatment, while others, such as Victoria and David Beckham, use skin creams containing bird droppings. Harry Styles has been treated with sheep placenta, and Gwyneth Paltrow has even been stung by live bees to reduce wrinkles.
– As an authorized skin therapist, I would say that there is too little research to assess whether the salmon methods are effective, says skin therapist Doha Albildawi.
This is how the treatment works
It is not milk in its raw form that is injected. If Aniston had done a little more research, she would have discovered that it is actually Polynucleotides, meaning molecules that are extracted from salmon DNA and are said to increase the skin’s moisture balance. The technique, which originated in Korea, involves injecting these substances in several places on the face.
– Personally, I prefer scientifically proven methods such as microneedling and AHA acids, says the skin therapist. But you should also keep an eye out for something called exosomes. Because I think that will be really big in the future.
