After tearing twice already at 5.85, the Swedish star was in a really bad place, and pressured to clear the height in order to have a chance at a WC medal at all.
The star looked downcast, before getting up to prepare for one of the most important jumps of his championship career – a jump he managed.
After that, there was a fight mainly against Sam Kendricks, USA, for the gold. Kendricks cleared 5.90 in the first attempt and Duplantis chose to stand over the height.
The Swede managed the next height, 5.95, in the second attempt – and thus he forced Kendricks up to the next height.
There it stopped for the American, and thus the WC gold was clear for Duplantis. Emmanouil Karalis, Greece, took bronze.
Duplantis then chose to raise the bar to the world best height of 6.05.
