Extensive work is expected due to the severe road collapse at Stenungssund.
There is currently no forecast – but it is certain that E6 will be closed for months.
– It will be a big challenge for all other roads to be able to meet the large influx of traffic, says Jörgen Einarsson, regional director at the Swedish Transport Administration.
During the day, the Swedish Transport Agency, together with the police and emergency services, worked to divert traffic. A work that will continue over the next few days. The goal is for heavy traffic to be moved to E45 in the short term.
But there is currently no forecast for how long the work will last.
– In the long term, it is far too early to say how we will handle this, says Jörgen Einarsson, regional director at the Swedish Transport Administration.
– But it will take many months.
“Very dangerous place”
A preliminary investigation regarding gross public danger devastation has been initiated – with the purpose of investigating whether there is any connection between the landslide and the explosion that was carried out during road work nearby.
– It is an example that we want to check, to investigate whether there is any connection there or whether it is a landslide. But it is too early in the investigation to comment on that now, says police spokesperson August Brandt.
The alarm about the slide came in at 01.48 during the night to Saturday. In total, an area of around 700 by 200 meters has been affected, and the roadway will be closed indefinitely.
Several buildings in the vicinity of the road are affected, according to the emergency services. Three people have been taken to hospital.
– It is a very dangerous place and landslides can still happen, says Anders Ekberg, rescue manager in Greater Gothenburg.
– The general public and the like are absolutely not allowed to approach this place.
Furthermore, he says that there is nothing to indicate that any person is missing and the search has therefore ended.
The public is invited to follow developments
The municipality went into emergency mode in connection with the accident. Road users and the public are now being asked to avoid the area – whether it is cordoned off or not. The public is invited to follow developments via the municipality’s website and the media.
A no-fly zone was imposed in the area, meaning drones are not allowed. But at 18.47 the police announced that the ban was being lifted.
