Emmanuel Macron mentioned, this Tuesday, July 25, from Nouméa the possibility that his former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe could “take over” at the Elysee Palace in 2027, saying he was concerned “that there really is a sequel” to his own action.
Shaking hands during a walkabout in Noumea, New Caledonia, the president was challenged by a man suggesting that “in 2027, maybe Mr. Edouard Philippe will replace you”.
“A follow-up to what we have put in place”
“I want there to really be a follow-up to what we have put in place. And that those who have accompanied me for six years now can take over”, replied the Head of State, who is starting a three-day visit to the Caillou.
And Edouard Philippe, who was Prime Minister from 2017 to 2020, “did well by my side. He is a friend”, argued the president.

Emmanuel Macron, however, maintained relations connected to alternating current with Edouard Philippe, as the emancipation of the current mayor of Le Havre who created his Horizons party two years ago. With significant popularity, born in particular during the Covid crisis, Edouard Philippe is at this stage the main contender to endorse the costume of candidate for the Macronist majority in the next presidential election.
Chance of the calendar, Edouard Philippe will receive on Tuesday the visit of Elisabeth Borne, traveling to the port of Le Havre in particular for announcements in terms of decarbonization of maritime and air transport.
