On Sunday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog arrived in Bahrain. The visit is the first to the small island state by an Israeli head of state since the countries established diplomatic relations in 2020.

According to Herzog, whose role is mainly ceremonial, the visit aims to strengthen the countries’ economic cooperation, as well as to hold talks on climate change and security issues.

In 2020, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco became the first Arab countries to normalize relations with Israel.

“I call on more countries in our region to join this partnership to strengthen the Middle East,” Isaac Herzog tweeted on Sunday.

In February of this year, the countries concluded a defense agreement, and in connection with it, then-Prime Minister Naftali Bennett became the first in his post to visit the Kingdom.
