In a message of thanks to Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Lebanese Hezbollah, who had congratulated him on his election, Massoud Pezeshkian said that Iran would ” to continue firmly its support for the resistance against the illegitimate Zionist regime “.

He added that the resistance ” will not allow this criminal regime to continue its crimes against the Palestinian people “.

Lebanese Hezbollah has been engaged in a direct war with Israel since October 7.

In the terminology of Iranian officials, the resistance includes Hamas and Islamic Jihad, Lebanese Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen and Syria.

This first position shows that a possible change in Iran’s regional policy is not envisaged by the new president.

Massoud Pezeshkian thus clearly marks his position to continue Iran’s policy of supporting the resistance groups fighting Israel.

Another sign: no European country congratulated the new president on his election, while the United States affirmed that the arrival in power of Massoud Pezeshkian will not change American policy towards Tehran.
