End of 2023, a Mediapart investigation reported spending more than 900,000 euros on suits, shirts and luxury clothing. Mediapart revealed that ” payments made from a mysterious company called MHK Full Business, registered in Ndjamena and having an account with the Commercial Bank of Chari (BCC) “.

The first suspicious transfer was allegedly made by Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno early December 2021 and the second on May 4, 2023. In total, the Chadian president is said to have spent more than 915,000 euros to buy luxury clothes from a famous Parisian tailor.

Investigation opened for embezzlement of public funds and concealment

The list drawn up by Mediapart gives an overview of the clothing follies that would have allowed such a sum to be reached, notably 57 suits with a unit value ranging from 9,000 to 13,000 euros, 100 shirts at 800 euros each, or even nine safari jackets at 7,500 euros each.

An investigation into embezzlement of public funds and receiving stolen goods was opened in France in January. According to the French press, the investigations could be extended to the real estate assets held by the Déby family and their entourage in France.

In his recent autobiography, Mahamat Idriss Déby returned to this affair. He denounced a political plot and affirmed that he had never been ” a costume lover “.
