Abdel Fattah al-Sissi was re-elected for a third term, the Egyptian electoral authority announced on Monday.
The Egyptian electoral authority announced Monday, December 18 that current President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had won a new six-year term with 89.6% of the vote. A victory which is not a surprise.
The authority’s head, Hazem Badawy, said participation had reached a rate “ unprecedented » of 66.8% of 67 million Egyptian voters. More than 39 million voters voted for former army chief Abel Fattah al-Sisi, who has ruled Egypt for ten years.
According to the Egyptian Constitution, this third term must be the last.
