The MSI listed a 24GB Vram version of the RTX 5080. Is this kind of variation possible without NVIDIA’s approval?
MSIIn the VGA compatibility list of the X870 Tomahawk Wi-Fi Motherboard, the GeForce RTX 5080 has a 24GB Vram version of the Model. This model, which NVIDIA has not yet announced, took part in the other RTX 50 series GPUs listed by the MSI. Interestingly, this capacity version of the RTX 5080, which is expected to come with 16GB Vram under the default, is not on the list. This raised the question of whether MSI made a preparation for the 24GB of RTX 5080 or is a mistake.
MSI RTX 5080 24GB Vram: Real or error?
NVIDIA’s partner companies usually cannot change the technical characteristics of GPUs and have to follow the standards set by NVIDIA. However, this model, which is on the MSI’s compatibility list, leads to the possibility that NVIDIA may be working on a Variation of 24GB Vram for RTX 5080. It is possible to reach this capacity by using 3GB GDDR7 memory modules. Currently, 2GB of modules are used in the RTX 50 series GPUs, but if NVIDIA changes this configuration, models with 24GB of memory may become possible.
The other RTX 50 series cards on the list include RTX 5090, RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070. However, the lack of the 16GB default version of the RTX 5080 strengthens the possibility that the 24GB model may be a spelling error.
24GB Vram can provide a great advantage especially for professionals who use memory intensive applications. However, the effect of this capacity may be limited in the game world. Nevertheless, if NVIDIA launches variations such as Super or Ti for RTX 5080, such memory configuration may become more meaningful.
The RTX 5080’s 24GB Vram version is currently on the list of MSI. Unless an official statement is made by NVIDIA or MSI, it will not be finalized whether this model is real. However, this listing gives clues that NVIDIA can offer different variations for the future RTX 5080. The eyes are now in the statements of NVIDIA and MSI.
