In order to ensure that there is food for Sweden’s population in the event of war or any other crisis, the Swedish Food Agency, the Swedish Agency for Agriculture and the Norwegian Veterinary Institute propose that grain stocks be built up in Sweden.

Sweden is a net exporter of grain and has good opportunities to secure access to food, writes Jordbruksverket in a press release.

The authorities, in collaboration with the business community, have, among other things, analyzed risks and vulnerabilities in the food chain and mapped companies’ capacity to deliver goods and services at a high level of preparedness.

In order to build up the grain stocks, the authorities propose that agreements be concluded with actors in the food sector so that already existing infrastructure can be utilized.

The proposals are based on a government mission that the authorities had in the years 2021–2023 to build up the country’s food preparedness.
