International football’s summer transfer window closed on Friday. We go through how much money the five biggest European football leagues spent on player transfers. The sets are listed in order of magnitude according to transfer compensation.

1. Premier League

Premier League clubs spent a total of 2.81 billion euros on transfers this summer. That is 500 million euros more than last year. Even on the last day of the transfer window, Premier League clubs spent around 300 million euros on player acquisitions.

    Chelsea broke the European transfer record in the summer transfer windows. It spent no less than 464 million euros in the transfer window. The previous record was Real Madrid’s approximately 340 million pounds in the summer of 2019.

    5. La Liga

    Clubs in the Spanish premier league spent a rare amount of money on player transfers. The clubs acquired players for a total of 439 million euros, which is the lowest amount in a decade, except for the two pandemic years.
