According to the news of the official Iranian agency IRNA, the Iranian General Staff published the preliminary report of the commission investigating the extent and causes of the accident.

“EMPHASIS ON THE NEED OF TIME”

In the report, it was noted that technical and general information and findings regarding the accident were collected and evaluated, and it was explained that more time was needed to evaluate some data.

1.5 MINUTES BEFORE THE PILOT ACCIDENT…

In the shared preliminary evaluation report, it was stated that the helicopter continued on the predetermined route and did not change its flight route, and the pilot contacted the pilots of the other two helicopters one and a half minutes before the accident.

THE WRECKAGE WAS REACHED TOWARDS THE MORNING

In the said report, it was stated that there was no trace of a bullet or similar external object in the parts of the crashed helicopter, and it was noted that a fire broke out in the helicopter after the fall.

The report pointed out that the ruggedness of the region, the cold and foggy weather caused the search and rescue efforts to take longer, and that the accident scene could only be reached towards the morning.

The report stated that no suspicious situation was encountered in the control tower’s interviews with the flight crew.

It was informed that the final results of the research would be shared after the completion of the investigation.

WHAT HAPPENED?

President Reisi attended the dam opening ceremony on the Iran-Azerbaijan border on May 19. Reisi had a helicopter crash on his way back with Foreign Minister Hüseyin Emir Abdullahiyan and some officials.

Upon Iran’s request, Türkiye assigned the Akıncı unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for search and rescue activities. The coordinates of the helicopter wreckage detected by Akıncı UAV were shared with Iranian authorities.

Iranian teams reached the designated point and it was reported that there were no survivors in the accident.
