It was SVT’s Assignment Review who last week reported that Jörgen Hellman (S) wrote at an address that for several reasons was considered uninhabitable. At the same time, Hellman received a grant from the Riksdag for an apartment in Stockholm. In total, during the years since 2015, he has received SEK 700,000 in compensation due to the fact that his registered address was more than 50 km from the Riksdag building.
The Member of the Riksdag resigned his political duties immediately after the revelation.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office is now opening a preliminary investigation for suspected fraud, confirms Chief Prosecutor Per Nichols for DN.
Hellman has been a member of the Riksdag since 2006 and was then elected to a mandate from Västra Götaland. In a written response to Dagens Nyheter, he wrote:
– I have not acquired any compensation I am not entitled to. On the other hand, I realize that this damages confidence in me as an elected representative and, above all, it risks damaging my party.

Why was the home uninhabitable?
According to Uppdrag Granskning, the address written by the Riksdag politician has several details that make the cottage uninhabitable:
● Broken windows
● Neither toilet nor shower can be used due to the municipality’s ban.
● Holes in the wall.
● Failed sewer.
Hellman has told SVT that he went to the toilet at the neighbors when he was in the cottage. But the neighbors have never seen him, they tell UG’s reporter
