Sorting out the foods that are allowed and those that should be avoided is not that simple. There are many sources of information and you can no longer see clearly? Here are the five foods to snub for nine months and our gourmet tips to better replace them …
Throughout your pregnancy, an appropriate diet will not only meet your nutritional needs but also those of your baby. The key is to maintain a balanced diet. Know that when you are pregnant, you don’t have to eat twice as much. But you can, in addition to meals and according to your appetite, have a snack. This makes it possible to avoid large meals and thus improve your digestion (nausea problems, acid reflux) while avoiding cravings and snacking.
Are you hungry all the time? You are probably not eating enough at meals to meet your needs and those of your baby. The result is that you are hungry between meals and you snack, which makes you hungry for the next meal. Over time, you risk losing your diet and putting on too much weight.
Starchy foods are not prohibited during pregnancy: do not shun bread, pasta, semolina, rice and potatoes … They are satiating and you will avoid cravings. Also think about dried vegetables, including canned ones (lentils, beans, chickpeas, split peas …): they are cheap and rich in energy, protein, fiber, minerals and vitamins.
Be particularly vigilant to hygiene as soon as you plan to become pregnant; this will help prevent most of the risks of infection.
Without disrupting your diet, avoiding certain products reduces the risk of infrequent infections – listeriosis and toxoplasmosis – usually not serious but which can have serious consequences for your baby when you are pregnant.

Pregnancy: avoid sushi
Why is it dangerous? These small bites of freshness look harmless… and yet! They are made up of 90% raw fish and can therefore contain the listeria bacteria which is very common in food of animal origin, even when refrigerated! To know: listeriosis, benign for you, could induce serious risks for your baby (spontaneous abortion, premature delivery) (1). You must therefore say “see you soon” to your menu 52 on Tuesday noon! Besides, this advice applies to all raw fish and whatever their form: carpaccio or tarama.
What to replace them with? At the Japanese restaurant, pregnant women can opt without fear for skewers of meat, fish or poultry accompanied by steamed rice, raw vegetables and soup. It’s the perfect balance!
Pregnancy: avoid carpaccio
Why is it dangerous?
Raw meat, even of very good quality and carefully prepared, also carries risks: of listeriosis in the same way as fish but also of toxoplasmosis. It is a parasite present in the earth and therefore on plants and meat. At the start of your pregnancy, a blood test will tell you if you have ever had toxo. If so, you are immune. Otherwise, regular blood tests will verify that you are not infected. Toxoplasmosis during pregnancy can cause serious health risks for the baby (abortion, death in utero, neurological and retinal damage) (1). But in both cases, therefore, refrain from eating carpaccio during your pregnancy. It goes without saying that raw cold meats (smoked ham for example), tartare, marinated meat or game or even undercooked meat (blue or rare) should be kept away from your table. “A point” is now your last word!
What to replace it with? A piece of well-cooked meat, poultry or fish. A tip to make them less dry: grill them or sauté them in a wok after marinating them with a little olive oil and spices.
Pregnancy: avoid raw milk camembert
Why is it dangerous? You were thinking of electing the No. 1 source of calcium camembert during your pregnancy? Forget this idea! All soft cheeses with a bloomy rind (Camembert, Brie) and washed rind (Munster, Pont-l’Évêque), especially if they are made from raw milk and obviously the raw milk itself could convey the famous listeria. .
What to replace it with? By all hard cheeses! As long as you leave the crusts aside… And if you haven’t had the toxo, make sure that the green salad that accompanies your cheese board has been scrupulously cleaned! You can also opt for cottage cheese, faisselle or yogurt.
Pregnancy: avoid oysters
Why is it dangerous?
The stars of the seafood platter are certainly full of minerals and flavors, all for almost zero calories! But to swallow them up is to expose yourself once again to the risk of listeriosis. Be careful, even served hot, oysters remain raw and therefore prohibited.
What to replace them with? Contrary to popular belief, seafood, as long as it is fresh and cooked, is perfectly suited to the needs of the mother-to-be. Shrimps, mussels, scallops: treat yourself!
Pregnancy: avoid desserts with raw eggs
Why is it dangerous? Chocolate or fruit mousses, caramel or burnt creams, as well as ice cream and pastries filled with cream, have been prepared with raw eggs (often beaten into stiff peaks). In short, these sweets also contain risks for the baby. Especially if they come from an artisanal production (bakery or restaurant) or if the cold chain has been broken (your friend crossed Paris with her dessert in the bag).
What to replace them with? Rest assured, the range of delicacies remains wide! Pregnant women are spoiled for choice: cookies, cakes, pies, fruits (well washed for negative toxins) …
Pregnancy: soy under surveillance
Soybeans and soy products (tofu, soy dessert, soy juice, food supplements containing soy extracts) contain phytoestrogens which, according to animal studies, could disrupt the hormonal system. from baby to adulthood. For the moment, no recommendation has been made for pregnant women but caution remains in order. In short, be sure to limit your soy consumption.
Pregnancy: also to watch
Smoked fish and cold meats (especially rillettes, pâtés and foie gras): artisanal products (cut or even from the caterer) can cause listeriosis risks for pregnant women. So choose pasteurized foods, check the expiration date and store them well wrapped in a healthy refrigerator (clean and at a temperature between 0 and 6 ° C).
