It’s an open secret, for a few years (and especially the advent of the PS5), Sony has been trying to make PlayStation a Premium brand, close to what the iPhone represents in terms of public attachment claimed by Apple. Price of the PS5 up compared to the PS4, a €50 increase in its console since last September, first-party games at €80, a pro controller at €240 and finally a PSVR 2 headset launched at a price of 599 €, Sony Interactive Entertainment has clearly changed its philosophy since the previous generation. A bet that would not pay off that much, at least not for its next virtual reality headset, expected for February 22, 2023 worldwide. According to Bloomberg’s latest surveythe Japanese manufacturer would have drastically lowered its ambitions for the PlayStation VR 2, following the poor figures related to pre-orders.

PlayStation VR 2

We remember that Sony aimed to sell 2 million PSVR 2 by the end of March 2023, one month after its launch. Goals that were undoubtedly established following the dizzying sales of the PS5, despite the shortage of components and despite a constantly rising price. However, it is fashionable to remember that the first PS VR took 8 months to cross the million copies mark in 2016/2017. According to the Bloomberg article, for Sony Interactive Entertainment, the general public would now be more inclined to be seduced by virtual reality. No doubt the VR market has become more democratic over the past six years, but given the current economic situation, the general public may not yet be ready to invest so much money in it. In any case, reality has caught up with ambitions…
