During the crisis exercise that started yesterday, dozens of soldiers and more than a hundred water board employees are deployed in Nieuwegein, IJsselstein, Lopik, Houten, Wijk bij Duurstede and Utrechtse Heuvelrug. For example, dike guards and soldiers with fluorescent vests walk along the Lekdijk to discover possible weak spots. They also practice measures that would be necessary if the dike were to be seriously undermined.
