Negotiations between the two main opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI) and the PPA-CI (African People’s Party-Côte d’Ivoire), continue behind closed doors. And very little information leaks out.

On July 6, the spokesperson for the PPA-CI, Justin Koné Katinanhad announced that the two parties would publish the list of regions or municipalities concerned by a joint candidacy “ within 48 hours “. But this has not yet been disclosed.

Points of disagreement remain, particularly in certain key localities, such as Yopougon, north of Abidjan. During a meeting held on July 9, a PPA-CI executive assured that the PDCI candidate would give way behind Michel Gbagbo, PPA-CI candidate and son of the former president. Information then denied by the PDCI.

On the other hand, an agreement seems to have been reached for the Haut-Sassandra region: the PDCI candidate and the PPA-CI candidate announced that they would co-host a press conference on Monday July 17 to present the candidates selected in the part of their alliance.

The deadline for receiving applications from the Electoral Commission has been set for July 19.
