According to the Mat Price College, the January price increase is the largest since March 2023 when the finance minister called the chains for a meeting and stopped the price increases.
Prices for groceries increase by 0.6 percent in total and for food -related products, the price increases by 0.8 percent.
– What we now see is that a two liter juice pack can go up with about ten kronor, a coffee package rises almost ten kronor and cocoa package from SEK 29 to 41. There are a lot of articles and those that increase they are increasing substantially, says Ulf Mazur, founder and CEO of the Mat Price College to SVT News.
29 percent of the goods in the grocery stores increased in price, 7 percent fell and 64 percent of the goods were unchanged.
The price increase beats broadly in the range
The average price of coffee has increased by 6.2 percent among 464 varieties and together with orange juice and cocoa is one of the goods that has increased most in price in the past month.
But this month’s price increases have been widely over the range, something that Ulf Mazur was surprised. Among other things, prices have increased on soft drinks, jams, fresh vegetables, nuts and dairy products.
– I didn’t think it would be really that big speech directly in January, says Ulf Mazur.
Continued more expensive in February
According to Ulf Mazur, we will probably be able to expect further increases in February.
– What we see now is what has been raised, but since then there are many chains and stores that have not yet changed their prices and also some producers that have not changed prices. So it will come in the future, says Ulf Mazur.
For example, he believes that the already high prices of coffee and chocolate will increase further in the coming months.
– Coffee package over SEK 100, I think that is not at all unrealistic this year, says Ulf Mazur.
This is partly because there are long backlogs on the prices of coffee and cocoa. Which in turn means that the record high prices that we now see on, for example, raw coffee will not be noticed in the store until a couple of months.
