Linus Ullmark has had a real super season in the NHL.
Now comes the big receipt for his impressive efforts.
Last night, the Swedish goalkeeper was nominated for the prestigious Vezina Trophy.
Few may have missed Linus Ullmarks incredible successful season in the NHL last year. In a short time, the Swede has really developed into a world-class goalkeeper and broke several records during the season.
Ullmark’s success
The 29-year-old became the fastest goaltender to reach 40 wins in a season in NHL history and allowed just two goals or fewer in 36 of 49 games for the Boston Bruins. This is Ullmark’s second season in the NHL team and despite having to leave the Stanley Cup playoffs already in the first round, the Swede can now be greatly appreciated.

Because last night the news came that Linus Ullmark is nominated for the prestigious Vezina Trophy as one of three NHL goalies. The heavyweight prize is awarded every year to the NHL’s best goaltender for the season and it is the first time in his career that the 29-year-old has been nominated.

Do like Henke
The other two NHL goaltenders nominated are the New York Islanders Ilya Sorokin and the Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck. If Ullmark were to win the award as the best goalie of the year in the NHL, he would write hockey history in several different ways.

Because it has been a full ten years since a Boston Bruins goaltender last won the Vezina award, and then it was the Finn Tuuka Rask 2013. Ullmark can also become only the third Swede ever to win the award after passing away Pelle Lindbergh did so in 1985 and Henrik Lundqvist received it in 2012.

This year’s Vezina Trophy winner will be announced during the NHL Awards on June 26 in Nashville. Then all of us Swedes keep our fingers crossed for Linus Ullmark, who would be well-deserved after this dream season.
