(Finance) – In 2022, the rate of severe material and social deprivation among young people (aged 15-29) in the EU it was 6.1%. The rate was slightly higher (6.7%) among the total population (all people living in households). The highest percentages of young people facing severe material and social deprivation in 2022 were recorded in Romania (25.4%), Bulgaria (18.6%) e Greece (14.9%). By contrast, the rate was below 3% in 12 EU members: Slovenia, Austria, Luxembourg, Croatia, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Estonia, Malta, Cyprus, Finland and Sweden.
In 2022, the overall rate of risk of poverty or social exclusion (AROPE) for young people aged 15 to 29 was 24.5%, which is 2.9 percentage points (pp) higher than the rate for the total population (21.6%).
Examining the specific components AROPE, the at-risk-of-poverty rate among young people was 2.8 pp higher than in the general population (19.3% among young people aged 15-29 compared to 16.5% for the total population). Similarly, the percentage of individuals living in households withvery low work intensity it was 0.4 pp higher among young people (8.7% compared to 8.3% for the total population).
In contrast, the percentage of people in severe material and social deprivation was slightly lower among young people than in the total population.
