Porsche shows the new Macan as a pure electric car

Porsche’s popular SUV Macan stopped being sold in Europe in 2023, and now it has unveiled a replacement.

The new Macan is a pure electric car and will initially be offered in the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo models, both of which are four-wheel drive and have an output of 408 and 639 horsepower respectively.

The sprint from 0 to 100 takes the Macan 4 in 5.2 seconds and the top speed is 220 km/h. For the Macan Turbo, the corresponding figures are 3.3 seconds and 260 km/h.

New platform under the shell

Under the skin of the new Macan we find the new PPE platform that Porsche has developed in collaboration with Audi.

Porsche was the first car manufacturer to build an electric car with an 800-volt system, which is something that the new Macan also offers. Among other things, the platform will also be the basis for the upcoming Audi electric cars A6 and Q6, as well as a fully electric version of the Porsche Cayenne.

The battery is 100 kWh and can be charged with 270 kW on an 800-volt charger. When charging on a 400-volt charger, the battery splits and acts as two 400-volt batteries, and can then be charged with up to 150 kW.

The wheel suspension both front and rear is of the multi-link type, and both model versions are equipped as standard with air suspension and the active four-wheel steering PASM.

As an option, the car is offered with four-wheel steering, where the rear wheels can turn by up to five degrees.

A familiar idiom

On the appearance front, as is often the case with Porsche, it’s a matter of evolution over revolution.

The car is quite reminiscent of its predecessor in terms of proportions, and several details are recognizable from other Porsche models.

The car has grown slightly in both width and length compared to the old Macan, but the hood is lower thanks to the fact that there is no longer a large petrol engine under there.

No shortage of screens

The interior follows the same design language as on other recently launched Porsche models such as the new Panamera and updated Cayenne.

This means that the gear selector sits up on the dashboard, and that there are fewer physical buttons than in older Porsche models. However, there are still physical controls for things like the ventilation system and the sound volume.

It also means that the instrument housing consists of a curved display, which is complemented by a large screen in the middle. As an option, you can also get another large screen in front of the passenger, as well as a heads-up display in front of the driver.
