Popular sushi chain closes for good after big loss

Last week, the popular sushi chain “Sushi of Sweden” announced that they had gone bankrupt.

The chain has two restaurants located in the Uppsala area. One in Boländerna and the other in Gränby. The one located in Gränby started already in 2015 and has been very popular with Uppsala residents.

The restaurants made a loss

The two restaurants had a total of eight employees. But it was at the most recent financial statements that it was possible to state that the restaurants had made a loss.

Since the restaurants had gone backwards, the announcement that the restaurants would go bankrupt did not come as a surprise, the bankruptcy trustee said Robert Wikstrom to Uppsala New Newspaper.

– It’s not sudden, you probably could have seen this coming. The whole year has been really tough. There are no margins, you have so little space, he tells Uppsala Nya Tidning.

Tough for the restaurant industry

Robert Wikström also believes that the future for restaurants can be tough, due to raw material prices.

– Raw material prices are rising, customers are decreasing, margins are small. It is a bad market and we will probably see a lot of this with restaurants being forced to close, says Robert Wikström to Uppsala New Newspaper.

On the sushi chain’s website, they write “Dear customers, we have closed Sushi of Sweden and would like to thank you for these years. Merry Christmas from Sushi of Sweden”.
