Halloween falls on Thursday, October 31, but many take the opportunity to dress up even before that day arrives. It is not unusual for children to dress up as ghosts, monsters or characters from famous films and then go trick or treating.
The Halloween celebration has long been established in Sweden, and in recent years a new trend in dressing up has been discernible: colorful and patterned lenses.

The danger on Halloween: “Increased risk of infections in the eye”
These are not as easy to get hold of at opticians as they are to get hold of on various websites online and in party stores. However, they are far from risk-free, says the optician Caroline Schiller.
She works as a product manager at Specsavers, which now goes out and warns about what they call “Halloween lenses”.

– Many who buy these are not used to wearing lenses, and thus they risk making mistakes, says Schiller in a press release, and continues:
– Using Halloween lenses bought online means an increased risk of eye infections if you handle them incorrectly.
The fact that the lenses are usually only used once, such as at a Halloween celebration, does not mitigate the risk. Schiller believes that you should be aware of things such as good hand hygiene and know how lenses should fit your eyes before you decide to insert lenses.

“Tough and Sticky”
There are more things to watch out for during Halloween. The dental hygienist Beth Karlsson has stated in a previous interview with P4 Sörmland that the risks of eating sweets do not disappear just because it is Halloween.
– You should try to avoid eating this tough and sticky candy because it is more difficult for the saliva to wash it away, she tells the channel.

This is what you should do if you want to use lenses on Halloween
If you still want to use colored lenses during Halloween, optician Caroline Schiller recommends that you turn to a professional optician.
– I think that all use of lenses should be preceded by an examination by an optician to make sure that they do not pose any problems with using lenses.
